Sometime ago, I read a moving story in our community paper here about a truck driver who gave his life to save the lives of several children. As the man's truck started down the steep, the brakes failed. Feverishly, he driver weaved about through the downhill traffic. At he bottom of the hill he realized that the only way to avoid hitting several children was to swerve into a bank to stop the truck. In doing so, the driver probably knew that he would die. Giving his life to save those of the children, he died in their place.
We admire that truck driver for what he did, but he culd not give the children eternal life dying for them. Able only to allow them a little longer to live, he couldn't even guarantee them hapiness during their extra years. Like the truck driver, Jesus made a calculated decision to die in our place. The huge difference is that Jesus' dying for us will give us eternal life and eternity with Him. Only though if we accept Him as our personal saviour. How thankful we should be for Jesus!
